How we check

Medical weight loss in Phoenix

Medical weight loss in Phoenix now often means a GLP-1 prescription bought cash. On October 17, 2026, LillyDirect charged $299 to $449 a month for tirzepatide (Zepbound), and NovoCare's Wegovy pills began at $149 [1][2]. CDC's 2023 estimate puts adult obesity in Maricopa County at 30.4% [3].

Medical weight loss is obesity treatment overseen by a licensed clinician, often built around prescription medicine plus diet and activity changes.

Maricopa County's numbers

Phoenix had 1,665,481 residents in July 2025 [4]. The CDC's PLACES model estimates that 30.4% of Maricopa County adults had obesity in 2023 and 10.6% had diagnosed diabetes [3]. Both figures are lower than in Dallas County (35.7% and 12.5%) [7], but in a county this size they still describe a very large number of adults who may qualify for treatment.

Each needs a prescription, and Valley clinics bill their fees separately. All channels are on the GLP-1 cost page.

Head to head in SURMOUNT-5, average weight loss at 72 weeks was 20.2% on tirzepatide and 13.7% on semaglutide [9]. Form, side effects and the monthly bill matter too: compare on GLP-1 cost, tirzepatide prices and Wegovy versus Zepbound.

Keeping injections cool in the desert

Heat is a practical issue for Phoenix patients receiving shipped medicine. The labels set firm limits:

  • Zepbound single-dose pen or vial: refrigerate at 36 to 46 F. If needed, it can stay unrefrigerated up to 86 F for a total of 21 days, then must be thrown away [10].
  • Zepbound KwikPen or multi-dose vial: can be kept up to 86 F, but must be discarded after 30 days at room temperature, 30 days after first use, or after 4 doses [10].
  • Wegovy single-dose pen: before the cap comes off, it may be kept between 46 and 86 F for up to 28 days; throw it out if it got hotter than 86 F [11].
  • Wegovy tablets: store at 68 to 77 F in the original closed bottle [11].

Ask how a package will be shipped and when it will arrive, and do not leave it in a car. More in tirzepatide storage and semaglutide storage.

Health systems in the Valley

HonorHealth describes itself as a nonprofit system with 9 hospitals in the Phoenix metro area [5]. Banner Health and Valleywise Health also serve Phoenix [12][13]. We did not find published self-pay prices for nonsurgical weight programs at these systems, so ask for the cash rate in writing.

Arizona Medicaid and Medicare

KFF's January 2026 count of 13 state Medicaid programs covering obesity GLP-1s did not include Arizona [6]. Phoenix Part D enrollees who meet the BMI rules can use the GLP-1 Bridge, which sets Wegovy, Foundayo or the Zepbound KwikPen at $50 a month from July 2026 through December 2027 [14][15]. Details: GLP-1s and Medicare.

Warnings on the labels

Pancreatitis can show up as stomach pain that is severe and does not ease: stop and call the prescriber, and do the same for signs of an allergic reaction. Pairing these drugs with insulin or a sulfonylurea makes low blood sugar more likely. Rodent findings led to a boxed warning on thyroid C-cell tumors, and the drug is stopped once pregnancy is recognized [16][11]. Call 911 in an emergency.

Before you sign up

Look up the prescriber with the Arizona Medical Board [17]. Ask if the drug is brand or compounded; FDA says compounded GLP-1s are not FDA-approved [18]. Nearby: Scottsdale weight loss, Tucson, Las Vegas. Also see the weight loss hub, how to choose a clinic and semaglutide in Phoenix.
