Medical weight loss is supervised obesity care from a licensed prescriber, typically pairing an approved medicine with diet, activity and follow-up.
Older, and more diabetic than the obesity rate suggests
Palm Beach County counts 1,575,726 people, and better than one in four is 65 or older [1]. CDC's 2023 model puts county obesity at a fairly low 26.6%, but diagnosed diabetes at 13.7% [5]. Inside West Palm Beach itself the obesity estimate climbs to 29.1%, with diabetes again at 13.7% [6]. A diabetes rate that high matters, since it changes which brand a prescriber reaches for and which insurance rules apply.

Medicare's Bridge, explained for Palm Beach retirees
- What it pays for: Foundayo in any form, Wegovy shots or tablets, and the Zepbound KwikPen. Ozempic and Zepbound vials or single-dose pens are left out [2].
- Your share: $50 for each month's supply [3].
- Who qualifies: a Part D member 18 or older with a BMI of 35+, or 30+ with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, uncontrolled hypertension or stage 3a+ kidney disease, or 27+ with prediabetes, a past heart attack or stroke, or symptomatic peripheral artery disease [3].
- Paperwork: Humana handles the prior authorization for everyone, decides within 72 hours, and an approval holds through December 31, 2027 unless you change drugs [2].
Zepbound prescribed for sleep apnea stays in your normal Part D plan instead [2]. Our Medicare GLP-1 page has more.
Tirzepatide and semaglutide for cash buyers

| Wegovy 25 mg tablets (semaglutide) | $299 a month | 12 | $3,588 | [4] |
Tirzepatide had the larger average effect when the two were tested head to head: 20.2% weight loss at 72 weeks against 13.7% for semaglutide [9]. Price lists: all GLP-1s, tirzepatide, semaglutide.
Jupiter Medical Center and other local options
Jupiter Medical Center has a weight loss services page on its site [10]. We could not confirm what that program includes or what it charges, so ask directly. Independent clinics and med spas across the county also sell GLP-1 programs; ask each whether it dispenses a brand product or a compounded one, because FDA says compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide are not FDA-approved [11].
Florida Medicaid
Florida does not appear among the 13 state Medicaid programs KFF found paying for obesity GLP-1s in January 2026 [7].
Signs that need attention
Intense stomach pain that does not fade can be pancreatitis, which every GLP-1 label lists; stop and call. Rash, swelling or trouble breathing after a dose also needs prompt care. With 13.7% of county adults diabetic, note that insulin and sulfonylureas make low blood sugar more likely on these drugs. Thyroid C-cell tumors in rodents are the basis of the boxed warning [12][13]. In an emergency, dial 911.
