Medical weight loss is a prescription-based program in which a licensed clinician monitors weight, health risks and side effects over months, often using FDA-approved GLP-1 medicines.
Three ways Boca Raton patients get treatment
- A local clinic or physician practice that examines you, orders labs and writes the prescription. Ask for the all-in monthly cost.
- A manufacturer direct program, such as LillyDirect or NovoCare, where your own doctor sends the prescription and you pay the self-pay price [5] [6].
- An online prescriber licensed in Florida. Compare them in online GLP-1 programs and check records in our reviews.

Palm Beach County health data
CDC PLACES does not publish city-level estimates for Boca Raton in the data we used, so the county figures stand in: 26.6% adult obesity and 13.7% diagnosed diabetes in 2023 [1]. Boca Raton has 101,582 residents, and 24.6% are 65 or older [4]. We could not confirm a hospital-run medical weight loss program with a published price in the city.
Coverage: Medicaid no, Medicare maybe
Florida was not among the 13 state Medicaid programs covering GLP-1s for obesity in January 2026 [2]. With about a quarter of residents 65 or older, many locals qualify for Medicare. The Medicare GLP-1 Bridge charges Part D enrollees a $50 monthly copay for Wegovy, Foundayo or the Zepbound KwikPen through December 31, 2027, if BMI criteria are met [7]. How to judge a clinic
Look the prescriber up with the Florida Board of Medicine [8]. Ask whether the medicine is brand or compounded; compounded GLP-1s are not FDA-approved, and FDA does not review them for safety, effectiveness or quality [9]. Our clinic checklist and weight loss guide list more questions. Nearby: Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach and Miami.
What the studies show
In STEP 1, average weight loss on semaglutide 2.4 mg was 14.9% at 68 weeks [10]. In SURMOUNT-1, it was 20.9% on tirzepatide 15 mg at 72 weeks [11]. Those are group averages, and many people lost less.
Call your prescriber or 911
GLP-1 labels list pancreatitis: seek care for severe stomach pain that does not ease [12] [13]. Seek urgent help for signs of allergic reaction. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea, ask how to handle low blood sugar. Do not use these drugs with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN 2 (boxed thyroid tumor warning). Stop when pregnancy is recognized. Call 911 in an emergency.
