Semaglutide is a GLP-1 medicine; Novo Nordisk sells it as Wegovy (pen or tablet) for weight and heart risk and as Ozempic for type 2 diabetes.
Two labels, one molecule
Ozempic and Wegovy share an active ingredient but not a label. Ozempic is approved for adults with type 2 diabetes, to manage blood sugar and cut heart and kidney risk, and has no weight-loss approval [5]. Wegovy is approved for long-term weight reduction and to lower heart attack and stroke risk in adults who have heart disease and excess weight [6]. Diagnosed diabetes reaches 12.5% of adults in Las Vegas proper and 12.4% across Clark County [2] [3], so plenty of local patients start with the Ozempic question. See Ozempic vs Wegovy.

A year of semaglutide against a Las Vegas paycheck
Twelve months of Wegovy pens at $349 cost $4,188 [1], about 5.7% of the $73,877 median household income in Las Vegas [4]. A newcomer pays $199 for each of the first two 0.25 or 0.5 mg pen fills until December 31, 2026, which trims year one to $3,888 if both land in time [1]. Prescriber visits and labs add to that.

Pharmacies that honor the cash price
Novo says 70,000+ US pharmacies apply its cash prices with the savings offer, NovoCare Pharmacy ships or routes to 9,000+ CVS stores for pickup, and Costco and GoodRx are partners [8]. After you register for the offer, the prescriber sends the order to NovoCare Pharmacy [1]. A commercial plan that covers Wegovy plus Novo's card can get a month to $25 [1].
Medicare, Medicaid and Nevada seniors
About 16% of Las Vegas residents have turned 65 [4]. Part D enrollees who qualify can get Wegovy pens or tablets for $50 a month under the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge until December 31, 2027; Humana runs the prior authorization centrally [9] [10]. The Bridge excludes Ozempic [10]. Nevada Medicaid pays for no GLP-1 used for obesity [11].
Compounded vials after the shortage
The semaglutide shortage officially ended February 21, 2025, and FDA's 503A allowance for routine copies ended that April [12]. Compounded semaglutide has no FDA approval and no FDA review for safety, effectiveness or quality, and FDA had 990 adverse event reports on it by May 31, 2026 [13]. Read compounded semaglutide and check telehealth sellers in the warning letter tracker. The Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners licenses local physicians [14].

When to get help
Both labels list acute pancreatitis, so ongoing severe belly pain needs fast care [6] [5]. A rodent-based boxed warning on thyroid C-cell tumors means no semaglutide for anyone with MTC or MEN 2 in their own or family history. Insulin or a sulfonylurea raises the odds of hypoglycemia. Throat or face swelling or trouble breathing needs help right away. The Wegovy label says to stop once pregnancy is known. Emergencies: 911.
