Doing the math for a Denver budget
Start at 2.5 mg for $299, move to 5 mg at $399, then most people on maintenance doses pay $449 if they refill within 45 days [1]. Twelve months at $449 is $5,388, or about 5.7% of Denver's $94,718 median household income [2]. Late refills cost more: $499 for 7.5 mg and $699 for 10 to 15 mg [1]. Lilly's December 2025 price cut lowered the vial prices from $349, $499 and $499 to today's $299, $399 and $449 [5].

Where Denver patients get a prescription
Any licensed prescriber can write for Zepbound. The CU Anschutz Health and Wellness Center in Aurora runs a physician-directed weight loss program that uses weight loss medicines and offers self-pay [7]. It does not list which drugs it prescribes or a price. Online programs are another route; compare them in tirzepatide online and check reviews such as Found or Henry Meds.

Compounded tirzepatide after the shortage
FDA's grace period for 503A pharmacies making tirzepatide ended March 5, 2025, after the shortage was declared resolved [11]. Pharmacies can still compound for an individual patient when the prescriber documents a significant clinical difference, and FDA says it will not act on four or fewer copies a month [11]. Compounded tirzepatide is not FDA-approved, and FDA does not review it for safety, effectiveness or quality [12]. See compounded tirzepatide.
Trial results and side effects
In SURMOUNT-1, adults without diabetes on 15 mg lost an average of 20.9% of body weight at 72 weeks; on 5 mg the average was 15.0% [13]. In the head-to-head SURMOUNT-5 trial, tirzepatide averaged 20.2% weight loss versus 13.7% for semaglutide [14]. Stomach side effects were most common, mainly during dose increases [13].
