Hospital-based options

Hoag Metabolism and Weight Management Center is Hoag's dedicated weight program [2]. Its page does not post a self-pay price, so ask for the cost of the first visit, follow-ups and labs, and whether it takes your insurance. UCI Health is another health system in the county; we did not confirm a specific weight program page there.

Coverage after Medi-Cal's change

Medi-Cal ended adult weight-loss GLP-1 coverage on January 1, 2026; patients under 21 and those using the drugs for other approved uses, such as diabetes, may still be covered [3]. About 18.5% of county residents are 65 or older [6]; eligible Part D enrollees can use the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge for a $50 monthly copay [7]. Employer plans vary; see Zepbound insurance and Wegovy insurance.

What the labels warn about

A boxed warning covers thyroid C-cell tumors in rodents, and the drugs are not for anyone with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN 2 [12] [9]. Pain in the stomach that is severe and lasting may point to pancreatitis. Allergic reactions can happen, and so can low blood sugar for people also on insulin or sulfonylureas. The drug should be stopped when pregnancy is recognized. Call 911 for an emergency.
