Charlotte's income and the retainer question

Charlotte's median household income was $82,068 in the 2020 to 2024 Census survey [2]. A retainer in PartnerMD's published $2,600 to $3,600 range [1] would be about 3.2% to 4.4% of that, on top of insurance premiums. PartnerMD bills monthly, quarterly, semi-annually or annually and asks for 30 days' notice to cancel, with a prorated refund [1]. Its listed offices are in Georgia, Virginia, Maryland and South Carolina, not Charlotte.

Employer-paid direct primary care

For many Charlotte workers, the DPC route could run through an employer. Hint Health's 2026 report says employers now fund 60% of active DPC memberships on its platform, with employer rates of $55 to $65 a month unchanged for five years, across more than 1.4 million members [5]. One tax catch: under IRS Notice 2026-5, DPC fees your employer pays, including through salary reduction, cannot be reimbursed from your HSA [6].

North Carolina's DPC law

North Carolina's direct primary care bill, H 471 from the 2019 session, was signed on July 1, 2020 [3]. On the federal side, 2026 brought a new HSA-friendly category for DPC: one-person plans priced at or under $150 monthly no longer knock you out of HSA eligibility [7]. Any practice that also sends claims to insurance is excluded, which leaves out most concierge models [6]. Compare in concierge versus DPC and the DPC guide.

Medicare patients

Charlotte's 65-and-over population, 11.0% of residents [2], should know Medicare's two rules here: the retainer is never reimbursed, and when the retainer buys services Medicare would not cover anyway, the practice owes you a written Advance Beneficiary Notice listing them [14]. Questions people ask

What will a Charlotte concierge doctor charge?

Charlotte practices we found keep fees private. The closest published benchmark is PartnerMD's $2,600 to $3,600 yearly range, read on October 17, 2026; its offices are in neighboring states [1].

When did North Carolina pass its DPC statute?

House Bill 471, a 2019-session bill, became law with the governor's signature on July 1, 2020 [3].

Can my employer pay for direct primary care?

Yes, and employers now fund 60% of active DPC memberships on Hint Health's platform, at rates of $55 to $65 a month [5]. Employer-paid DPC fees cannot be reimbursed from your HSA [6].

Do HSAs and DPC mix now?

From 2026 they can: individual DPC memberships at or below $150 a month that meet IRS conditions leave HSA eligibility intact [7][6].

Will Medicare reimburse a Charlotte retainer?

No. Covered visits are still billed to Medicare, but the membership fee itself is never paid by Medicare [14].
