Semaglutide in Nashville: clinics and prices

TennCare made Wegovy (semaglutide) a preferred obesity drug, with prior authorization, starting August 1, 2025 [1], so Nashville Medicaid members have a covered route. Paying out of pocket, a month of Wegovy pens runs $349 through NovoCare, and new patients pay $199 for each of their first two starter fills through Dec 31, 2026, per prices checked Oct 17, 2026 [2].

Three routes for Nashville patients

  1. On TennCare: your prescriber files a prior authorization for Wegovy. TennCare's notice sets the bar at a BMI of 30 or more, or 27 or more with a weight-related health problem [1].
  2. Living with type 2 diabetes: Ozempic is the semaglutide brand labeled for blood sugar control and for lowering heart and kidney risks in type 2 diabetes [5]. Davidson County's diagnosed diabetes rate is 11.2% of adults [3].
  3. No coverage at all: Novo Nordisk's cash program, sold direct or through its pharmacy partners, is the fallback [6].

What Nashville cash buyers pay

On Oct 17, 2026, NovoCare charged one flat $349 for every standard pen strength from 0.25 to 2.4 mg, while the daily tablet ran $149 at 1.5 mg, $199 at 4 mg and $299 at 9 or 25 mg [2]. Ozempic, the diabetes brand, was $349, or $499 at 2 mg [7]. Twelve months of pens without TennCare adds up to $4,188, roughly 5.4% of the $77,371 median household income in Nashville [4]. If a Tennessee employer plan covers Wegovy, Novo's copay card can drop the bill to $25 a month (its savings top out at $100) [2]. Novo says about half of its Wegovy business is now cash pay [8]. Taking levothyroxine? Weigh the pill carefully

Thyroid patients in Nashville should raise this before choosing a form. The Wegovy label reports levothyroxine exposure climbing 33% alongside the tablet, which is swallowed each morning on an empty stomach with no more than 4 ounces of plain water and then a 30-minute wait before food, drinks or other pills [9]. The weekly pen skips that morning routine. Side by side: Wegovy pill vs injection and Wegovy drug interactions.

Compounded semaglutide in Tennessee

FDA called the national semaglutide shortage over on February 21, 2025 [10]. Compounded copies never earned FDA approval, the agency does not assess their quality, safety or effectiveness, and it had logged 990 adverse event reports for compounded semaglutide by May 31, 2026 [11]. The Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners licenses the state's physicians [12]; our compounded semaglutide guide covers the rest.

Missouri and Minnesota were also named among states whose Medicaid covered obesity GLP-1s in 2026 [14]: compare semaglutide in St. Louis and semaglutide in Minneapolis. Southeast neighbors: Atlanta and Charlotte. For non-drug options in town, see Nashville medical weight loss; drug basics sit in the semaglutide guide.

Before a first Wegovy shot

Semaglutide caused thyroid C-cell tumors in rodents, so the label carries a boxed warning and rules it out when your own or a family member's history includes MTC (medullary thyroid carcinoma) or MEN 2. Belly pain that is severe and keeps going can mean pancreatitis. Insulin or a sulfonylurea taken alongside raises the odds of low blood sugar. Plan to stop at least 2 months before trying to conceive [9]. A severe allergic reaction is a reason to call 911.
