Adding the drug

PlushCare's own page says brand weight loss drugs can cost about $1,000 a month in cash [1]. The makers now sell for less to self-pay patients: Zepbound $299 to $449 a month through LillyDirect [3] and Wegovy pens $199 for the first two fills then $349 through NovoCare [4]. Ask your PlushCare clinician to send the prescription there if your plan will not pay. See Wegovy cost and Zepbound cost.

Can PlushCare prescribe Wegovy, Ozempic or Mounjaro?

PlushCare lists Wegovy, Zepbound, Saxenda, Xenical and Contrave for weight loss. It prescribes Ozempic, Mounjaro, Rybelsus and Victoza only for type 2 diabetes, and it offers metformin [1]. That matches the approvals: Ozempic [5] and Mounjaro [11] are approved for type 2 diabetes, not weight loss. PlushCare does not sell compounded drugs. Read Mounjaro vs Zepbound for why the same molecule has two names.

FDA and complaint record

We found no FDA warning letter to PlushCare in a third-party tracker that indexes fda.gov warning letters [2]. That tracker is a secondary index, not a full search of FDA's database. We have not yet checked PlushCare's BBB profile or court records, and the legal entity was not named on the page we read. Track letters in our FDA letter tracker.

Who PlushCare fits

  • Fits: people with insurance who want a low-cost prescriber and prior authorization help, and people who want brand drugs only.
  • Fits cash payers who plan to buy the drug direct from Lilly or Novo and want a low monthly fee for the prescriber.
  • Look elsewhere: people who want one monthly price with the drug included, or in-person care. See Knownwell for clinic visits.

Label safety summary

Wegovy and Zepbound carry a boxed warning for thyroid C-cell tumors in rodents and are not for people with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN 2 [6] [7]. Stop and call your prescriber for stomach pain that will not go away, which can signal pancreatitis. Low blood sugar is a risk with insulin or a sulfonylurea. The labels say to stop when pregnancy is recognized. Call 911 for a severe allergic reaction.
