Hims weight loss is the online GLP-1 prescription program of Hims & Hers Health, Inc., a publicly traded San Francisco telehealth company, sold with a required monthly membership.
Our verdict
AvoidAn open FTC, Utah and LA County lawsuit over subscriptions, cancellation and health data sharing meets our avoid rule for regulator action. The drugs are brand products, but you pay a $149 monthly membership on top of prices you can get direct from Lilly or Novo.

Why Hims weight loss gets an avoid rating
Our rating rules put a provider in avoid when a regulator has taken action against it. That is the case here. A wire report dated Jul 30 2026 says the FTC, Utah and Los Angeles County filed suit against Hims & Hers in California federal court [1]. The complaint alleges three things:
- Customers were enrolled in recurring subscriptions without clear disclosure.
- Cancelling was difficult, and charges kept coming after people tried.
- Health data was shared with Meta and Snap for advertising.
These are allegations, not findings. Hims & Hers posted a statement titled "Hims & Hers Responds to FTC Lawsuit" on its investor site [4]. We could not load its text on Oct 17 2026, so we do not summarize it here.
The FDA record adds to the picture. FDA's Sep 9 2025 letter cited the phrases "Same active ingredient as Ozempic and Wegovy" and "Clinically proven ingredients" used for compounded semaglutide on hims.com [2]. On Feb 6 2026, FDA named Hims & Hers when it said it would act against the drug ingredients used in non-FDA-approved compounded GLP-1s [5]. Fierce Pharma reported that Hims tried to sell a compounded version of the Wegovy pill in early February 2026 and then backed down [6].
What Hims weight loss costs

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Membership | $39 first month, then $149 a month, auto-renews | Required for any drug. Includes a smart scale and care team. Does not guarantee a prescription. Not HSA/FSA eligible. | Oct 17 2026 | [3] |

The membership is the real markup
The starting drug prices match the makers' lowest self-pay prices [7] [8]. The membership is added on top. The first year of membership alone is $39 plus 11 payments of $149, or $1,678.
| Drug and dose | Hims (drug plus $149 membership) | Direct from maker | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wegovy pill 1.5 mg | $298 | $149 at NovoCare | [3] [7] |
| Zepbound 2.5 mg | $448 | $299 at LillyDirect | [3] [8] |

What you get from Hims
On Oct 17 2026 the Hims weight loss page listed only brand drugs: the Wegovy pill (with a microdosing plan), Wegovy pen, Foundayo, the Ozempic pill and pen, Zepbound vials and KwikPens, and Mounjaro for people with type 2 diabetes [3]. Hims says it is not available in all 50 states. The page did not name the pharmacy that fills orders.
On tirzepatide: Hims sells brand tirzepatide as Zepbound and Mounjaro. We did not see compounded tirzepatide on the page. On the Wegovy pill: the label's schedule starts at 1.5 mg and steps up to a 25 mg maintenance dose [9]. A microdosing plan is not part of that label schedule. Read our Wegovy pill guide for dose prices.
Compounded semaglutide at Hims: what changed
Hims used to sell compounded semaglutide; that is the product FDA's 2025 letter was about. On Oct 17 2026 it no longer appeared on hims.com/weight-loss [3]. A law firm summary says Hims and Novo Nordisk announced on Mar 9 2026 that Hims would offer brand Ozempic and Wegovy and stop most advertising of compounded GLP-1s, except where medically necessary [10].
Compounded semaglutide is not FDA-approved, and FDA does not review compounded drugs for safety, effectiveness or quality [11]. FDA tells telehealth firms not to call a compounded drug "the same as" an approved drug [12]. Our compounded semaglutide guide covers the current rules.
FDA and complaint record
- FDA warning letter 716567, Sep 9 2025: compounded semaglutide claims [2]. A separate letter went to the Hers brand the same day [13].
- FTC, Utah and LA County lawsuit, July 2026: subscriptions, cancellation and health data sharing [1].
- BBB: we have not yet checked the Hims & Hers BBB profile.

Who it fits and who should look elsewhere
Hims can be convenient if you already use it for other care and accept the membership. Most people who want a brand GLP-1 pay less by getting a prescription elsewhere and buying from LillyDirect or NovoCare. If cancellation terms matter to you, wait for the lawsuit to play out. Anyone on insurance should check coverage first: does insurance cover GLP-1s.
Before you start any GLP-1
Zepbound and Wegovy carry a boxed warning for thyroid C-cell tumors seen in rodents. Do not take them if you or a family member had medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN 2 [14] [9]. Severe stomach pain that will not go away can signal pancreatitis; stop and call your prescriber. Watch for low blood sugar if you also use insulin or a sulfonylurea. The labels say to stop when pregnancy is recognized. Call 911 for trouble breathing or a severe allergic reaction.
Alternatives to Hims for brand GLP-1s
These programs have no FDA letter in our tracker. Hims vs Ro: both sell brand drugs at maker prices, but Ro's membership runs $74 to $149 a month against Hims's flat $149 [15].

Why is Hims being sued?
The FTC, Utah and Los Angeles County sued Hims & Hers in July 2026, alleging undisclosed subscription enrollment, hard cancellation with continued charges, and sharing health data with Meta and Snap for ads [1]. The claims are allegations, not court findings.

The Hims weight loss page did not name a pharmacy on Oct 17 2026 [3]. Ask before you pay, and check that the pharmacy is licensed in your state.
