Semaglutide in New Jersey: clinics and prices

A first-time pen buyer's opening two low-dose fills are $199 each through December 31, 2026 [1].

Bergen County budgets and employer plans

Our New Jersey figures come from Bergen County, the county we use as the state anchor. Its median household income was $124,884 in 2020 to 2024 [2]. Two $199 starter fills followed by ten months at $349 total $3,888 for a first year of pens [1], close to 3% of that median. For many Bergen households the harder question is coverage, not cash: Lilly points to an IFEBP survey finding that roughly half of workers with employer insurance have no obesity drug benefit [5].

Ask your plan before you pay cash

  • Look up Wegovy, pen and pill, on your plan's formulary.
  • If the plan covers it, Novo's savings offer can bring the copay down to $25, with up to $100 a month in savings [1].
  • If it does not, the pen's self-pay price is $349, the 7.2 mg Wegovy HD pen is $399, and the tablet runs $149 at 1.5 mg, $199 at 4 mg and $299 at 9 or 25 mg [1]. Ozempic, the type 2 diabetes brand, is $349, or $499 at 2 mg [6].
  • On Medicare Part D, ask about the GLP-1 Bridge, which charges $50 a month to people who qualify [7].

The evidence in two sentences

Adults in STEP 1 who took semaglutide 2.4 mg lost 14.9% of body weight on average by week 68, compared with 2.4% on placebo [8], and an extension found about two-thirds of the loss returned within a year off the drug [9]. Wegovy is also approved to lower the chance of a heart attack, a stroke or cardiovascular death for adults who live with both heart disease and excess weight [10]; see semaglutide results.

Compounded and salt-form semaglutide in New Jersey

FDA's grace period for pharmacies compounding semaglutide ended in April 2025 [11]. A compounded version has no FDA approval. Nor does FDA check its effectiveness, safety or quality. The agency also says salt forms such as semaglutide sodium are different active ingredients from the approved drugs, with no lawful basis it knows of for compounding them [12]. The State Board of Medical Examiners handles physician licensing in New Jersey [13]; read compounded semaglutide.

Label warnings

Rodent studies tied semaglutide to thyroid C-cell tumors, which is why Wegovy carries a boxed warning; skip it if you or a close relative ever had MTC, or if you have MEN 2. Stomach pain that is intense and will not ease may be pancreatitis. Watch for allergic reactions, and for low blood sugar if you also use insulin or a sulfonylurea. If you hope to conceive, the label wants semaglutide stopped 2 months or more beforehand [10]. For an emergency, dial 911.
